Tarbert Loch Fyne Parish Church
A warm and personal welcome to all from the people of Tarbert Parish Church
Our Community
The parish of Tarbert Loch Fyne and Kilberry linked with Skipness is situated in the heart of Argyll, at the head of the Kintyre peninsula, encompassing some of the most beautiful scenery Scotland has to offer. The village of Tarbert is the gateway to many of the inner Hebridean islands, Islay, Jura, Colonsay and Gigha, and is also linked by ferry to the Cowal peninsula.
The parish dates back to 1392 and hosts both our Tarbert and Kilberry churches along with the Free church, which is situated in the village.
Tarbert on Loch Fyne is built around a natural harbour and home to a small fishing fleet.
The Church of Scotland plays an essential role in providing worship and spiritual guidance for key life events, from child blessings and baptisms to marriage and funerals.
Our Church
Tarbert Parish Church is a Georgian style category B listed church and dates back to 1775 and sits in a prominent position overlooking the village. Within the front entrance to the church there is a Heritage Centre, which gives the history of the church and the fishing village of Tarbert with photos and artifacts on display. The church has a small stained glass window which was designed by Harrington Mann back in the 1920’s.
There is an adjoining hall, vestry and kitchen. Internally to the church there is seating for 400 with the hall holding another 60. The church has recently been renovated and internal work included the installation of a public address system and induction loop system. A new air source heat pump was also installed.
There is a regular attendance at the Sunday morning worship which is conducted at 11.30am and is in the main traditional but the congregation is understanding of necessary evolution within the church. The Sunday School has occasional attendances with seasonal activities.
The Church Hall
The Church Hall is used for a variety of social groups including The Guild, The Fund Raising Group, a Dancing Group for young children, The Lochfyne Pipe Band and Gaelic Feis Groups.
